Buitengracht Street, Cape Town

Offices - Completed 2020

Our involvement with planning this building started in 1998. Over the years we have remained inspired by the innovative and visionary mind of the client, who is not scared of expanding and changing the office space to meet the changing needs of their business. It remains exciting to witness how the physical changes in the building reflect the business changes.

This building was our first introduction to working in the Bo-Kaap and designing in a heritage sensitive area. We also loved the opportunity to explore designing on a sloping site bordered by 2 streets. Through the planning process we were introduced to the Bo-Kaap resident organisations and met incredible people with a passion for their community.

The vibrancy of the surrounding buildings inspired us to explore the concept of branding a building boldly with colours. When driving down Buitengracht Street there is little doubt as to which building is Oro Africa and we believe the choice of colours and design worked really well.

We are looking forward to the next evolution of the building that is currently being planned – watch this space...
