Even our love of a challenge was severely stretched when we were first asked to inspect the existing building conditions on this site. The existing buildings looked unfinished and our inspection revealed extreme waterproofing and similar defects in unusual places.

 

We enjoyed the opportunity to work with one of our favourite clients and the team collectively took a deep breath and ...... transformed a neglected and incomplete hotel and residential complex into a warm and welcoming building where guests are encouraged to linger in the public areas.

 

One of our favourite design features on the entrance level is the arched exposed aggregate ceiling that looked unfinished and completely out of place when the project commenced. By introducing perimeter bulkheads and beautiful ceiling lights, the worst design element was transformed into an eye-catching, intriguing detail. The project landscaper had one solution for the unforgiving and harsh exterior spaces: trees, trees, trees and more trees. Fortunately both our client and us LOVE planting trees and this gave us the opportunity to explore defining the existing pool area space by means of sculptural planting boxes - and we are very, very proud of the result!
